Fabien Barthez was born on 28 June 1971 in Lavelanet.
Known for playing football, Fabien Barthez is also a good poker player, the game he plays more and more since he has hung up his boots and traded them for poker chips. This passion is nothing new. He has regularly played poker with his team mates and recently with the players from FC Nantes, his last club.He has already participated in numerous competitions such as the Aces Tournament in the 2007 Estelle Denis' celebrity edition, released every year on Paris Première, grouping together many poker lovers. 'Fabulous Fab' who then played against six other cekebrities including actors like Mickey Rourke and the film-maker Abel Ferrara, big Poker fans, has won no less than $500,000 for the profit of an ill child. His professional and exceptional career started in 1991, when he was 21, with the Toulouse team. Subsequently he joined Marseille in 1992. The following year he would play an important role in his team's victory during European Cup by performing a very high quality match.
In 1995 he continued his career in Monaco, where he won 2 French Championship titles in 1997 and 2000. He subsequently crossed the Channel to join Manchester United in 2000 and won two English championships in 2001 and 2003 with the Red Devils. In 2004 Fabien Barthez returned to France to one of the first clubs he played for – Marseille. He finished his professional career by joining FC Nantes Atlantique in 2006, where he played for almost a year.
Fabien Barthez also has an impressive list of achievements for the national team. His first cap was in 26 May 1994 against Australia. Four years later, he was one of the major factors of the '98 World Cup victory in Paris. In 2000, he wins the European Championship by beating Italy.
Finally, in 2003, he won the FIFA Confederations Cup. He lost his magic touch in 2006 after the losing in the World Cup final. Fabien Barthez has been capped 87 times by France and holds the best record as a goalkeeper in this field.
